Psychological Testing & Assessment in Wichita, KS
What is the evaluation process?
-
An intake session is the first step in the evaluation process and allows us to gather comprehensive background information to guide testing.
During this appointment, you and/or your child will meet with a clinician to discuss current concerns, symptoms, strengths, and areas of difficulty. The intake may also include a review of prior evaluations, academic or workplace functioning, caregiver or teacher observations (when applicable), and relevant medical or developmental history.
This appointment typically lasts approximately one hour and helps ensure that the assessment plan is individualized and clinically appropriate.
-
The assessment session involves the administration of the selected testing measures identified during the intake.
These assessments may evaluate areas such as cognitive functioning, attention and executive skills, learning and academic abilities, emotional and behavioral functioning, social-emotional development, and personality traits, depending on the referral questions.
The length of the assessment typically ranges from 1.5 to 4 hours, based on the scope of testing needed. Because this session can be lengthy, clients and/or caregivers are encouraged to bring a snack and a drink for comfort.
-
After all assessments are completed, a comprehensive written report is prepared that integrates information from the intake, interpretation of testing results, diagnostic impressions, and individualized recommendations.
During the feedback session, results are reviewed in a clear, strengths-based, and collaborative manner, with time to answer questions and discuss next steps.
Reports include therapeutic recommendations and, when appropriate, guidance related to psychiatric or medical follow-up. The feedback session is typically scheduled for one hour.
Following the completion of the evaluation, ongoing consultation and support remain available as needed.
FAQ’s

Psychological evaluations can provide clarity, validation, and meaningful treatment recommendations for a wide range of concerns. Many mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions share overlapping symptoms, which can make diagnosis and next steps feel confusing.
Comprehensive psychological testing allows for a deeper understanding of an individual’s experiences, helping to differentiate between conditions and identify patterns that may not be visible through therapy alone.
At Kaleidoscope Counseling Group, evaluations are designed to offer more than a diagnosis. The process helps clients better understand their strengths, challenges, and how their brain works, while guiding therapy, educational planning, workplace accommodations, and medication decisions when appropriate. If you’re seeking answers, clarity, or a more complete understanding of your mental health or neurodivergence, psychological testing can be a valuable next step.
